Thesis NINETY-FIVE: Will the Church be replaced by bones and stones?
If the Church is not willing to examine carefully the attitudes and behaviors prevalent today and repent then perhaps the prophecies spoken of in Ezekiel and the Gospels will come to pass: God will raise up the dry bones from the valley floor and the stones from Jerusalem’s streets to be a people who will worship Him rightly.
Thesis NINETY-FOUR: Everything is for sale in the Church store…
Selling products in the Church is an embarrassment to the ministry. Instead of taking faith into the marketplace we have established a market in the House of faith.
Thesis NINETY-THREE: Church fundraisers cause questions of stewardship and lack of faith…
When the Church endorses the selling of ANYTHING in order to raise funds it demonstrates 1) a lack of faith in God’s full and accurate provision, 2) poor stewardship and 3) going beyond what God is doing.
Thesis NINETY-TWO: Loving only those ‘neighbors’ who are just like us…
Jesus also said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” The Church has understood ‘neighbor’ as the persons just like ourselves. But Jesus describes a neighbor as the person least like us, and that we are to love them as much as we love ourselves.
Thesis NINETY-ONE: Loving God with all our heart and strength, but not our minds…
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and strength.” The Church has emphasized the importance of how we feel (heart) and what we do (strength) as Christians, but is not thinking critically (mind) about the culture, our faith or our own lives.
Thesis NINETY: Self control is the best freedom…
Freedom of choice can be good, but not as synthesis. To control oneself is the ultimate exercise of freedom and is always the best choice.
Thesis EIGHTY-NINE: Self-control is not the enemy of freedom…
The fruit of the Spirit is self-control (thesis) and the fruit of the sinful nature is drunkenness and carousing (antithesis). The Church insists on freedom of choice (synthesis).
Thesis EIGHTY-EIGHT: The Church being right in the right way…
Certitude can be good, but not as synthesis. While the Church should be confident and unwavering on the truth, we are called to gentleness when relating to someone who is in the wrong.
Thesis EIGHTY-SEVEN: What if the Church is right in the wrong way?
The fruit of the Spirit is gentleness (thesis) and the fruit of the sinful nature is envy (antithesis). The Church has embraced certitude (synthesis).
Thesis EIGHTY-SIX: Relevance for the Church is about identity and idolatry…
Relevance can be good, but not as synthesis. Relevance as an abstract becomes an idol; the Church is most relevant when it is most faithful to God and its true nature and identity found in God’s Word.
